Josh has worked in the helping profession for over ten years.
He began his career working with vulnerable youth and addictions in Vancouver. Since then, has had experience as a mental health counsellor and spent years counselling young people from across Canada.
Josh values the importance of creating a strong alliance between counsellor and client, and he recognizes that a healthy connection requires collaboration between both. With an education in narrative therapy, Josh works to separate the person from the problem and to have an open conversation about the stories that make up who we are. He appreciates how validating it can be to have someone hear what you are going through, and he approaches counselling with curiosity, empathy, and care.
Josh graduated with a Master’s of Social Work degree from York University in 2016, and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Concordia University in 2010. He has trained in Narrative therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Solution Focused Therapy. As a strengths-based counsellor, Josh has also worked with clients to achieve their goals through evidence-based techniques.
Some of the issues that Josh works with include:
Depression
Anxiety
Grief and Loss
Abuse
Addiction
Identity
Disability
Family Dynamics
Relationships
Thoughts of suicide and self-harm
Josh lives in Courtenay along with his cat, his dog, and his wonderful partner.
