Liz came to the profession of counselling after doing crisis line support and suicide prevention (including education) for over 10 years. She believes that the power of counselling hinges on good teamwork, trust, empathy, and sometimes a bit of humour. She strives to create a space where you can grow in ways that relieve stress and pain and allow you to feel a greater sense of belonging, and purpose in your life and relationships.
Liz has a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology from UVic and a master’s degree in counselling from City University of Seattle in Canada, as well as years working in non-profit crisis services. She has specific training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing (MI), narrative therapy, and brief solution focused therapy. She also draws on neuroscience and attachment theory to approach each person’s (or couple’s) concerns in a flexible manner.
Liz currently welcomes individuals (over age 11) and couples and will work with you to set goals that are realistic and meaningful for you.
Liz also still teaches suicide prevention workshops (namely ASIST: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) in the community; please reach out to our office if you are interested in taking this workshop or learning more about suicide intervention.
Liz grew up in the Shuswap, but has lived on the Island for almost 20 years, and calls both places home. She loves being outdoors. These days, Liz lives in Comox with her best friend and two ridiculous cats.
